Located on the limits of Bogotá and the departments of Huila, Meta and Cundinamarca, Sumapaz is home to the largest and most fragile ecosystem in the region. It has the largest páramo (high-altitude humid plain) in the world, 14 varieties of espeletia (plants with a thick trunk and hairy leaves disposed in a spiral pattern), mountainous landscapes dotted with magnificent mountain lakes, countless springs, and pre-Columbian archaeological sites.
