This complex of warehouses (amarat) originally opened directly onto the shore. Along a central alley, there were warehouses for imported products - timber from India, for example - and shops selling the equipment needed to fit out the boats. The whole complex has been renovated by the Anne Holtrop studio, using their special technique of working with concrete. The most spectacular feature is the immense raw concrete canopy raised on daring pillars. Walking through this immense, vertiginous space is quite impressive.
