This superb modern stone building houses the very latest in museography and is one of Greece's leading museums. Its rich collection provides a comprehensive and attractive overview of Messara, from prehistoric times to the Christian era. Among the many objects on display are a larnax from the 13th century BC and several pithoi with reliefs from Pisidia and Kannia. The highlight of the collection is the room containing Hellenistic statues found on the site of the theatre at Gortyne.
