Since the early 17C, Junagarh Fort has been home to a string of royal palaces behind its impregnable red sandstone walls marked with 30 bastions. Take some time to admire the Anup Mahal, where the maharajas were crowned and which is richly decorated with paintings, mosaics and gildings. Also worth a visit is the Chandra Mahal, the Palace of the Moon, where the women lived, and the Gaj Mandir, the terraces of which provide a magnificent view of the town of Bikaner.
